A noticeable increase in bike ridership in Dumaguete City, Philippines, led to a bike rack design competition during the Dumaguete Exposition, February 2013.  In hopes to raise awareness and respond to the number of bicyclists and limited available places to secure bikes, community participants submitted design proposals to hold ten bikes.  16 design entries were displayed at Foundation University's DAFA booth during the expo, encouraging visitors to choose a popular design.  The winning design, selected by a jury panel, was constructed at the main entrance at FU's campus.

Best Design Award: Raian Rey Docuyan and Mohner Inoferio entitled, Love Nature as You Love Yourself.  It won for its straightforward design using reclaimed tires that help protect the bike finish and hold the bike upright.
People's Choice Award: Daryl Suasin entitled, Stingray.

Anna Koosmann (A+) organized the competition and oversaw the construction with FU's Building & Grounds, completed in October 2013.  As a bike advocate, Koosmann organized the first Critical Mass bike ride in Dumaguete City in January 2013.  Learn more about these events on her blog, Teaching in the Philippines.  Photos Courtesy of Hersley-Ven Casero.
